When someone starts explaining AI, verify that they have at least *pretended* to have read Gödel, Escher, Bach. 99% of people who claimed to read it are lying, but if they don't even KNOW TO LIE about it, then they don't know sh-t about AI.

GEB is awesome, took me several attempts to finally grok it. Alex St John blog (deleted but readable on archive https://web.archive.org/web/20170707210604/http://www.alexstjohn.com:80/WP/blog/ …) was a great supplementary reading on topic of overhyped "AI"pic.twitter.com/CF11ZsnFX0

From your rec years ago, I still haven’t grasped it. Nothing to be ashamed of - I just can’t get it!

GEB is a brutal read that I have attempted many times in my life with limited success. The difficulty usually begins immediately with the discussion and description of J.S. Bach's virtuosity which I invariably find more interesting than continuing with the rest of the book.

Agree. Hofstadter's book is a good read.

I prefer Issac Asimov. And btw, AI is just that, AI. In other words, BS.
