When someone starts explaining AI, verify that they have at least *pretended* to have read Gödel, Escher, Bach. 99% of people who claimed to read it are lying, but if they don't even KNOW TO LIE about it, then they don't know sh-t about AI.

Rather than pretend to have read Gödel, Escher, Bach, you can 80/20 the hard stuff by reading "I Am A Strange Loop."https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/reviews/i-am-a-strange-loop-by-douglas-hofstadter-910470.html …

It took me 11 months to get through the book :D It was 15-20 years ago, and probably about time I re-read it. The chapter walking you through Gödel's proof had me stuck for a long time, but when I finally understood it it was worth it.

No one understands A.I. The ones that do are lying.

Gödel was one of the smartest people in the 20th century, and yet few have even heard of him and even fewer recognize his genius. Einstein knew Gödel was the smarter of the two. That’s how intelligent Gödel was.

To be fair it’s a huge book, and we’ve all been guilty of this at some point, but curious what causes you to bring this up

Goedel's theorem states that any sufficiently powerful math system must have at it's basis unprovable axioms. Example: "the shortest distance between two points is a straight line" cannot be proved. It is not true!! (except in Euclidian geometry).

If you're serious, it's a book by Hofstadter. Also author of "I am a Strange Loop", generally amazing author imo.
