Interesting mix of replies to this. No doubt everyone would agree it's very sad but was it stupidity? Are all hiking / sightseeing accidents Darwin awards? I wouldn't say so.

Some hiking falls are due to something suddenly cracking and breaking, either ground or constructed supports or something other then just carelessly leaning off a cliff. Unless going to a cliff trail at all is Darwin award material, as some would say.
