Nö and yes. People got upset with politics- one of the biggest triggers was the refugee crisis starting in 2014/15 that’s when fake reporting about refugees came in and people lost trust in mainstream media and rose up against them. Since then everything is political.

For me it was the Orwellian censorship during gamergate. But I do think trump made the disillusionment mainstream the way he makes the press meltdown and go crazy. Everything accelerated with trump’s effect on the media.
