Yes, because my dad is an essential employee. He works on the computer systems that run the radar for our nation's airports. And he's not getting paychecks.

Hi Kevin. Your dad, obviously, is a good guy. Will he get back pay once gov opens again? I hear so many different answers that im@taking this opportunity to ask someone directly in the know. Thanks!
-
Yes he will, and their 1st paycheck missed will be tomorrow, or now today Friday. The Senate passed a bill tonight guaranteeing their backpay

I actually would have found out ten minutes ago as the church I’m a member of just sent out an email looking to raise funds for one of our members who is a federal employee and is struggling to pay rent this month.
-
Federal employees make twice the national average, pensions, great healthcare and they can't save enough for two months? I used to be an IT Consultant going from one project to another. Sometimes months without a project. Poor planning is not someone else's crisis.

Have some heart, man.

Yes, just due to some friends employed by the gov, who are suddenly not getting paid. I really wish elected officials also didn’t get paid.
-
Agree! But don’t think for one minute they rely on their “government salaries,” many have been bought and sold!
-
Yeah, that's very true. Still annoys me that those in power get paid while people who rely on a salary (and have no power in the situation) go without.

Yes. Have a relative working for the FAA on air traffic control who isn’t getting paid.
-
Today's the first actual check miss right? If so, this is when things get real serious for those workers.
-
He actually got a check for pay period ending 1/05 for $13...but worked 88 hours. Young guy, newly married. This is impacting real people.
-
He'll get back pay, right?
-
Assuming so yep.
