Yes. That sure did it. Bolsonaro knew there would be no keeping them. Trump was either unaware or too confident that he could reconcile and unify. Wrong. Even his own party proved unwilling.

Trump thought through force of personality and his not inconsiderable persuasion skills he could change DC. But it turns out, perhaps unsurprisingly, that DC (and other centers of power) only respect power and force. Bolsonaro seems to understand that instinctively.
