The simplicity of a two party system is the reason. Republican RINOs and Democrat moderates have to fit into their party for any chance of holding office. In the meantime, Trump has upended the very definition of conservatism. Perhaps collective common sense will win in the end.

I think you are right. I think it's inevitable that Conservativism will be replaced by Nationalism as the main opponent to Leftism. (Though as you said, it may still be called Conservativism). You're right about AOC also,like it or not, she is the political voice of a generation

There have always been Rockefeller republicans. Bush Sr. seemed conservative & apparently he wasn’t. Koch’s & Bloomberg are typical cronies. Their hallmark is being “anti religious”. They wouldn’t support Huckabee. Both parties are infiltrated no doubt, but DEMS sold out 100%.
