I don’t remember even taking the ACT. Maybe I’m too old.

My husband & I were talking about this the other day. As “poor kids” no one at our high school ever encouraged us to look into college. No one helped us- because we were white & poor. Minorities & rich kids got all the chances & we were just pushed aside, didn’t even take SATs.
-
Lucky, in my generation whether you were poor or not the pressure to go to college is immense. I had to prep for SATs on my own but the school allowed the AP students like me to take a pre SAT to help prep. Went to college but even with loans, 2 scholarships, grants, and work

It was never even brought up once to either of us. They had no problem pushing the ASVAB on us though.
-
I have no idea what that is. Was it like an end of the year test?
-
The test to see which branch of the military you place best in.
-
Oooooh excuse my ignorance haha

It’s all good. That was the 90s so who knows if that’s what it is even called anymore.

Senior year was too late as the PSATs are Junior year and can really help a poor kid get noticed if you do well.

As Monty Python put it in "Four Yorkshiremen," "We used to DREAM of livin' in a corridor! Woulda' been a palace to us. We used to live in an old water tank on a rubbish tip. We got woken up every morning by having a load of rotting fish dumped all over us!"

I took the SAT and didn't know what it was or why I was taking it. Everyone else was doing it. The 80's were rough on the brain.

If you want real change, fix the laws so everyone can raise capital , not just those who go to the ivys. Qualified investor rule is a huge deal if you want to build something great . The crypto markets can fix all of this easily if the laws are changed

Kids like me could only DREAM of taking the SATs. I had to scrub toilets in lieu of paying the ACT test fee. And I was HAPPY to do it!

Same. My junior year they shuffled us into the cafeteria for the PSAT test. I had no idea. Turns out affluent kids had studied for it, and it had ramifications for national merit scholarship money.
