And their better off parents would keep the “good kids” away from the “poor kids.” (The rich kids actually were worse, and they all got away with it. Friends with the prosecutors and judges.) A sort of caste system in America.https://twitter.com/DavidV1836/status/1078854732230377472 …

Projects, barrios, trailer parks...I bet each of those conjure up images of a specific race, and that's because being poor isn't specific to skin color, not sure why it's such a contested topic

Thank you for this thread. It really hit home. I was raised by my father and we were working class, lower end, with many of the issues you wrote about. I never forget how it felt to be poor and ashamed. But I make great money now and am motivated to give my daughter the best life

When I was a kid I was so poor I couldn’t afford to pay attention. So what were we talkin about?

I mean, rich kids weren't allowed to have long hair when I was in wrestling, either. If you couldn't fit it in a tight cap, you had to get it cut.
-
My daughter always had to put her hair up. If she didn't have a hairnet she didn't wrestle.

I saw a kid thinking rules don’t apply to him and a referee over reacting.

I never needed an MRI but my pain was from a girl that teased me because my clothes were "ugly" as a 7th grader. the desks were in a circle, the teacher had left the room, we were to discuss some reading assignment. In front of everyone, she wanted to know why I dressed that way.

Gosh this really stings. I got a lump in my throat reading it. I grew up very poor, have lived at different levels of broke at different times in my life (still poor :/) and this is a real life account from someone who has lived through it or knows someone who did.

While I agree that the virtuous rich is often exaggerated, it’s important to note that while its admirable to escape poverty, it’s not noble to be in it

The coach was at fault also. As a coach of kids you need to step in and protect your kids.

I didn't see that at all. I saw a young man abiding by the rules in a one on one contact sport. Does anyone know if he won the match? That should be the story.

My daughter always had to wear a hairnet. When they were inspected prior to the match it was made sure she had it along with her nails being cut. Bullshit

I'm "white" and in the 11th grade I had to cut of a small braided rat tail right there at the edge of the mat with a pair of scissors because the ref wouldn't allow it. No, I didn't want to. This is not a racial issue at all.
