Beats by Dre headphones is a luxury good. That's how good the American poor have it. (Actually being poor sucks, and articles like this do no one any favors.)https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/22/opinion/rent-to-own-racism-christmas-shopping.html …

Add beats to the long list of companies that recognize the profitability available in the black american consumer market. If your brand becomes "in" in the black community the brand loyalty and ROI are through the roof.
-
Black entrepreneurs know this. They know that the brand loyalty in the blk community is as serious as life and death. Drinking the right liquor, wearing the right brands, driving the right car can mean the diff between status and no status.

Branding simplifies the quality shopping process for us. People don't all have much time to compare different headsets and determine sound quality. But we know Beats since they are widely popular and vetted have a minimum sufficient standard of high quality. That's the rationale.

I put an $800 set of cans on my stepson's ears at an audiophile store. "Not enough bass" he said. I realized he is addicted to bass. He is getting a high from the tones and not even the music. Makes me wonder about those frequencies. He loves his Beats. They suck.

Real recording studios don’t use Beats. That tells me everything I need to know.

I have two pairs of V-Moda M-80s (well, one's a V-80, but they're True Blood-branded M-80s) and they are easily the best headphones I've ever owned. Most other headphones sound terrible now.

My understanding is that originally Beats were developed by a company notorious for overpriced HDMI cables.

I tried a friend's Beats, I laughed out loud when I heard how crappy they sounded. He was offended.

BTW, JBL S400BT+ was the real deal. Unfortunately they got canned, but the good news is that I bought several extra pairs of these once $250 headphones for only $50 each (new) and stocked up.
