College sports are inherently exploitative, college athletes should be paid salaries. Legacy admissions should be abolished. As with unpaid internships, it creates structural barriers to upward mobility. I’ve always said this. Populism, not conservatism.

I don’t about being paid a salary, but the athletes shoukd not be banned from making money from thier name through endorsements, sponsorships, or what ever else a pro athlete makes money going.

College athletes get free education, food and living arrangements. Not to mention all the free clothing and travel expenses. They are well taken care of and definitely not being exploited. and get it all if they stay above a 2.0 gpa. #usedtobeone

My compromise is they should be able to make money of the use of their own names, which the NCAA currently does without giving them anything.

Playing sports is one thing, and if the trade is an education great, but the limiting of outside income is where I take issue.

I hear ya. Maybe the NCAA should ban the use of names on jerseys being sold..but man, if ur a 19/20yo college kid and see ur name on a jersey being sold 😳, there might not be a better feeling.

It's not that the NCAA makes money that bothers me. It's the fact they actively ban them from using their own names and faces to make money independently.

My son will have a HUGE student loan debt because he doesnt throw or catch a ball. He has attended every class, written every paper, and taken every test. "Students" who are on teams wont have debt and didnt do half or any of work. They are paid already.

Once you pay college athletes it ceases to be college sports. It becomes pro sports by definition.

Most colleges are giving/investing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of scholarships, housing, clothing, tutors, food etc. into to these young men and women. I would think that would be considered a reasonable “salary.”

If athletes were paid, Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State (maybe Notre Dame) would be playing alone.
