This is partially true. Trump said he would build the wall. If he doesn't do it, his base will NOT support him in 2020 for failure to do so. That is why Schumer is fighting so hard. The Trump hatred has gone ballistic. It is not about America anymore, its apposing Trump.
The shutdown wasn't Trump's plan all along. He was fine with bill. The base rebelled, and he's backtracking. One of the most harmful delusions is that Trump always knows what's best, and it's all 4-D chess, and therefore the base shouldn't speak up when it breaks promises.
