    Gov'ts are increasingly keen on exploiting this blurry line between legal orders & TOS enforcement, and using company enforcement errors to target even non-TOS-violating speech. Transparency here is an essential tool in keeping gov't censorship in check.

    We also need individuals to be informed when gov'ts are targeting their posts. Otherwise, people may not be able to demonstrate standing to challenge government censorship of their speech, because they can't prove gov't involvement. (See: )

    FBOB echos a recommendation that many of us in civil society have been making for years, that TOS takedowns in response to gov't notices should be considered & reported as gov't demands for content restriction.

    IRUs can allow gov't actors (typically law enforcement) to launder extralegal censorship goals through companies' TOS enforcement systems. FBOB says FB indicated there was no "valid legal request" about this particular post, but it's not clear whether that includes referrals.
