My decision process is simple when receiving messages: does it sound like the person is asking a question in good faith? If no, I don't engage. It'd be a waste of time and a sourer of mood.

Smartest idea is to ignore, but sometimes you have to try and change the minds of those with questions. Trolls do not have questions and deserve a whole shoe full of dog poo
