"Ancient" & "Eastern"? A common argument put forward by fans of alternative medicine: it's unfair to use standards "Western" science. This is wrong on many levels, but also b/c most CAMs ARE relatively recent &/or "Western". @picardonhealth @AlanLevinovitz @DrJenGunter @McGillOSSpic.twitter.com/ucHrVDsyJW

For me, the "ancient" argument is most plausible when the practice seems entirely physiological (independent of a metaphysic) and it's cross-cultural, e.g. giving birth in a squatting position.

I'm very familiar with history, thx. Explicitly said "and/or" because of Japan. Indeed, I've tried Reiki in Kyoto and interviewed a "master." Glad u agree 1922. Zero misrep in my tweet. Not sure why I'm engaging, as you are clearly very invested in this magic. Good luck.pic.twitter.com/BrtVHgLGTF

You missed TCM, created by chairman Mao in the 1950s because of a shortage of trained physicians.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2013/10/25/chairman-mao-inventor-of-traditional-chinese-medicine/ …

Interestingly reiki is barely on the radar in Japan, and most older people there think it has something to do with talking to the dead because the character “rei” means “ghost”. Those who do know it generally think it’s ridiculous.

Diseases don’t care where their treatments were invented, it only matters if the treatment works. Those try to who emphasize a treatments’ value based on it being ‘eastern’ are selling ‘mystique’, not providing care.
