    Something I learned while checking info for my French Revolution piece: Apparently Tom Paine proposed that Louis XVI & family be deported to the U.S., both in recognition of French aid in Revolutionary War & for the cool symbolism of an ex-king becoming a citizen of a republic

        The US had a warship named "The Queen of France" in honor of their help during the revolution so they might have sold it. Also, fun fact: the person responsible for acting as the warden of Marie Antoinette during her imprisonment was the Marquis de Lafayette.
