They could have just side stepped this entirely by saying Latina since the acts were both women. That way the crybabies about masculine words couldn't say anything and you wouldn't have to make 99 percent of people over 25 say WTF are u talking about?

All languages derived from Latin are gendered. This is an attempt by totalitarians to control language and by extension debate as they can adjust a word’s meaning to suit their argument.

Twitter, like a lot of institutions, has internalized the norm that the socially responsible and safe thing to do is to defer to the wishes of activists. Ultimately the identification of people with the term matters less than whether they’re willing to actively protest it.
