Interesting fact about Gerald Horne, the historian whose work is most commonly cited as basis for the "1619 Project" (or at least the claim that the "real" goal of the American Revolution was to preserve slavery): he's an actual, pro-Soviet Communist.https://www.peoplesworld.org/article/rethinking-the-history-and-future-of-the-communist-party/ …

The reason it's not surprising at all is that Young is a dishonest grifter.

The authoritative case was actually made here, in 2005: https://www.amazon.com/Slave-Nation-Colonies-American-Revolution-dp-1402204000/dp/1402204000/ref=mt_hardcover?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid=1575079400 …

I've read it (and critiques). I think it makes a strong case that debates about slavery helped shape the Constitution. As far as slavery being a motive for the Revolution, it's basically speculation.

History is regularly being rewritten; the newer takes are not necessarily “better”, but blindly ingesting someone’s ideas just because they are popular, could be an intellectual dead end. As Faulkner said: The past isn’t dead, it isn’t even past.”
