I’m for prison abolition (eventually) and releasing non-violent offenders at least until COVID resolves. But police are arresting people for assault daily in the Tenderloin. Are they then releasing offenders back onto the streets? @chesaboudin

The DA's office eliminated cash bail, draconian sentence enhancements, and reduced pre-trial detention -- all have proven criminogenic effects . They created the first primary caregiver diversion program. Stripping a child of a caregiver is a risk factor for future incarceration

They've greatly expanded the use of collaborative courts, which brings together multiple agencies to address the root cause of a crime. Broad support is already there -- Chesa won an election. In the months/years ahead, his evidence driven policies will drive crime down.

A homeless man who lives across the street from me was robbed a few days ago. Zero police response. Not only are homeless people more at risk of the coronavirus, they're more at risk of street violence
