@dylan522p hardware mitigations didn't increase IPC, they made it worse (but probably more secure)1 reply 1 retweet 2 likes -
To elaborate, I suspect it includes mitigations to more vulnerabilities than what is publically known right now, and more than software mitigations that are available right now.

That would imply that Intel knows of other vulnerabilities in all the other chips that they are currently selling, and aren't telling anyone about them.

Replying to @realmemes6 @Cat_Merc and
It's normal for them to know about the vulnerabilities well ahead of time. Iirc they had a year or so's notice about Meltdown and Spectre as well, just failed to implement mitigations before they were released out to the public. Responsible disclosure and all that.

I think "responsible disclosure" would involve letting
@linuxfoundation know about it sometime between discovering the problem and releasing a chip with the fix hardcoded in, so software mitigations could be made for the rest of ushttps://twitter.com/realmemes6/status/1185182999157059584 …siliconmemes added,
siliconmemes @realmemes6Replying to @Cat_Merc @KOMACHI_ENSAKA @dylan522pNa, it's sketchy. The public finds out when Linux etc is patched. Software can be patched in weeks. Hardware takes like a year? Some people know, maybe some bad guys, but they didn't tell the good guys that can make software fixes because it makes them look bad.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Because I haven't seen posts of Linus losing his s#$% or patches coming out. But it's true, could be everyone is being really professional, patching but keeping it all on the DL.

There's nothing really to lose your shit about anymore. It's not new, and ever since the first disclosure we all knew it was going to be a long term problem with many mitigations required.
