At risk of overusing the word 'interesting' lately but this is an interesting article on the sense of imposter syndrome that comes with buying expensive products - the twinge that the product doesn't reflect who we 'really are'

(THREAD) Last week, I had a heated debate with a (man) climate expert, who told me it was a mistake to talk about climate through the gender lens. I've spent the past four years trying to learn more about this issue, to be able to talk and write about it.

It's a change of lifestyle & carries with it the sense of sacrificing something. One of the 'uncomfortable' truths of sustainability is that we can't carry our existing way of life into the future: our policies have to change, our economy has to change, and WE have to change.

But when it comes to changes that will force us to undergo significant inconvenience (and by 'inconvenience' I mean a change from the easy & accessible consumption we're used to), we feel uncomfortable. Because choosing not to fly isn't a replacement in our lifestyle 3/

one of the biggest issues in individual responsibility in being responsible consumers: many of the more eco-conscious shoppers are willing to make changes in our behaviours when they can be adapted into our lifestyle - reusable mugs and bags are trendy, vintage is now cool 2/

Article by in today about how flight shame isn't proving sufficient to get people to stop flying, opting instead for offset schemes/googling 'greenest' airlines. Our unwillingness to change our lifestyle perhaps highlights 1/

Good to see a guide to having a more that takes a nuanced approach. We need to recognise that the real impact comes from everyone taking steps to reduce their impact that are sustainable for them, as well as the planet.

Thought-provoking read: governments & corporations need to ensure that their sustainable policies don't just 'green-screen' damaging environmental impacts further down the line. Sustainable development needs resilience, monitoring & adaptability in policymaking.

January was a pretty intense start to the year. We know that this decade is going to be pivotal for the climate and humanity. But it doesn't have to be terrifying. Here are some things you can do now to get things going and ease the anxiety:

what an absolute mic drop from Claire Perry O’Neill in her scathing letter to Boris Johnson on his lack of leadership on climate change and how badly off-track is, following her sacking and subsequent media briefings against her
