I had take James Brown out of MSG once for a VH1 show. As we exited, a crowd happened to be coming out of Penn station. They freaked out. “Little Richard, OMG, Little Richard!” James just smiled and waved, never correcting them. Even the ‘Godfather’ wanted to be the ‘King’.
There’s actually a more sardonic part to this story but didn’t fit in the tweet. James also turned to me and made a funny and insightful comment that isn’t appropriate for twitter. We had also just left a visit with Paul McCartney. Will do a podcast on music stories someday.
