Note that there has already been at least one large spike in reversals, with 4765 reversals detected on November 21 (the day after Trump's account was reinstated)

I’ve started tracking @elonmusk’s suspension reversals in preparation for the coming “general amnesty”, and they’re already the brand safety nightmare you’d expect: gist.github.com/travisbrown/c9

For the record, I have literally never been locked, banned, or suspended on any Twitter account over the course of 15 years so I am decidedly not concerned over the potential for a sudden and unexpected deplatforming of my account.

New type of guy: programmer who argues that comments are unnecessary because the compiler throws them away.
LarryKellogg: The compiler throws away comments. Most of the time, that's the right thing to do when reading code.

soul Nate: praying I never have anyone like you on my team

LarryKellog: I wouldn't hire you if you wrote copious comments.

I've read so many useless, outdated, and flat out wrong comments that I no longer trust them. I know what the code does after reading it. If the methods and variables are well named, there is no need for comments.

Made a Hive account today out of curiosity. First impression is that everyone waxing poetic about it is must be on an iOS device, because the Android client is a bit of a hot mess. Filing this one under "not quite ready for primetime or heavy use"

Thread worth reading on the stakes associated with social media content moderation- and the very real human costs of getting it wrong.

(Content note for rest of the thread: frank discussion about Trust & Safety work, the toll it takes on you, the things you see, and the human misery, suffering, and death that happens when you fuck it up, including murder and child sex abuse.)

Twitter archive finally generated a week after it was requested. Taking a lot longer than it has in the past, but at least it appears to still be working.

This photo is a pretty good litmus test for politics: do you regard this man with respect, or disgust?
An image of a well groomed man in a suit is projected on a large television screen. On each side of the screen stands a wheeled robot with arms.

Finding another instance with better moderators just punts the issue down the road- an instance that hosts content disallowed by the major servers will eventually find itself defederated and cut off from the main network.

This is on the largest Mastodon server hosted by the creators themselves. Really highlights the fact that Mastodon is ill-equipped to handle the sort of discussions that Twitter enables.

in 13 years on twitter i’ve never had a post removed, and in 3 weeks on mastodon i’ve already had something taken down for racism and sexism, ok

A good reminder to not rely on persistent 2FA. Wouldn't want to inadvertently end up with an account with no 2FA and a weak password like "MAGA202X"

Replying to @RayRedacted and @eliomen
An important thing to know is that when an account is deactivated, the 2FA gets turned off. When the account gets reactivated, the 2FA does not get turned back on
