Hey folks, do I got any browncoats following me? 'cos I wanna talk some gorram Firefly! You can't take the sky from me, I'm a leaf on the wind, and other references. But more specifically, I want to talk about Chiwetel Ejiofor's character The Operative from Serenity.pic.twitter.com/XE7lDE2qeq

There's this moment where Mal says to him, "me and mine gotta lay down and die do you can live in your better world?" To which he retorts, "I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there, any more than there is for you." "Malcolm, I'm a monster!" He emphasis.

*Emphasizes rather, stupid phone. The Operative you see, is a true believer. He believes in something greater than him, an ideal. Even if it's a society that he will have no part of, one that doesn't want people like him to exist, he's going to fight for it passionately.pic.twitter.com/ba3kp6T1gC

Even his pining for older, more "civilized" societies is just extremely on point. Now, people who are used to my threads that use pop culture as a jumping off point or reference are probably wondering "Oh? What point is that?" Well, let me tell you about Dan Burros.

Burros, for those who don't know, was perhaps the most well known member of the American Nazi Party, and later, the KKK. Well known because he was Jewish. He killed himself after his Jewish heritage was revealed.

His life was the inspiration for the movie The Believer, which starred a young Ryan Gosling as a Jewish neo-nazi. The movie is well worth seeing, and Gosling is seriously intense as the self-hating jackbooted skinhead.pic.twitter.com/WJp0ycAjde

Gosling's character Danny, much like The Operative, is a true believer. It's kinda in the title; The Believer. They both believe in a world where they no longer exist, and society is better for it. It's something both believers strive for.

Now, I'm kind of dancing around the point I want to get to, because it's a delicate one, a point that people find hard to grasp. That there are some people in this world so self hating, that they are advocates for their own extermination. Spoilers for The Believer follow.

Threatened by a reporter who is going to out him, Gosling's character kills himself. He wanted to rid the world of people like him, and so killing himself is the least he can do to further that goal. His ideology was always a self-destructive one, and he raced towards this end.

I started this thread because I regularly see folks surprised when they find out nazi/alt-right furries are a thing. "Don't they know they'll be first up against the wall?" folks ask? Yes, they know. They invite it.

It's precisely what they believe in, a better world, one without people like them. This is particularly evident when you see the distain the alt furries have for the general furry community; be it bomb threats, getting cons cancelled, whatever. They are entirely self-destructive.

This is the same lens in which we need to view people like Milo Yiannopoulos, a self hating gay nazi who loathes LGBT people and envisions a world where people like him no longer exist.https://www.buzzfeed.com/josephbernstein/heres-how-breitbart-and-milo-smuggled-white-nationalism?utm_term=.pxGNG85A6q#.vqaM9jpLyb …

When you use "longknives" as a password, in reference to the night of the long knives, where the Nazis purged many of their own members including Ernst Rohm, you know your fate. That is what Milo welcomes.

In reading this recent article about Milo, an image is featured. https://usa.spectator.co.uk/2018/04/the-fall-of-milo-yiannopoulos/ … It harkens back to simpler times, nuclear families of the 1950's, where LGBT people had no place. A more... civilized society, as The Operative might have put it.pic.twitter.com/d6QqI5TRJ1

This is telling. It's someone who's entire goal is self-destructive, he loathes himself, and wants rid of everyone like him. We can see this in articles where he expresses wishes for homosexuality to be criminalised, he's someone who believes society would be better without him.pic.twitter.com/bAtuwfQP7N

And this is true of most minority members of the alt right. They're oblivious to the fact their "friends" would have them up against the wall at a moment's notice, they implicitly know this, and welcome the long knives because they are true believers.

Feck i can even see it. I thought the Operative was interesting and compelling, even admirable, when i first saw him. Giving yourself up for an ideal is a very noble thing and of course yeah that hits right into some peoples interest. Wanting to be noble, the martyr.
