PhD funding is based on the model of a healthy, single 22year old with no caring responsibilities, living in shared accommodation in a cheap surburb, and immediately entering full-time well-paid work after graduation.

Not long left to go to get those abstracts submitted for ! It’s promising to be a great conference- if you’re interested in any aspect of anthrozoology, it really is worth attending!

Here's a thing I've noticed: when people have problems with their pets (cats but also applies to dog I guess) a lot of times the answer is that you're gonna have to change things rather than expect it's possible to train the problem out of the pet

Sadly, it's easier to be than you may think. Online sellers can forge documents or even use a false mother to trick buyers into believing the puppy is happy & healthy. If you plan to buy, rather than adopt, do your research & follow our advice:

Guide dogs were perceived to have the highest welfare, but free-roaming dogs one of the lowest. What does it say about our relationship to dogs that we perceive the least human restriction as “worst” but the most restriction as “best”?

"The drive for increased performance has resulted in an unintended consequence: a hyper-competitive and individualistic working environment. This is damaging to the wellbeing of staff and counterproductive to addressing the world’s most pressing problems"

Really interesting paper from looking at the reasons why people choose to adopt from overseas. Appearance and type of dog still plays a big role - heart sets on an individual - but the apparent ease of rescuing cf UK is also a factor.

Great to see some published research by et al. on the imported rescue phenomenon🐾Concerning to read that the majority of imported rescue dogs are reportedly entering the UK incorrectly under the EU Pet Travel Scheme

The RSPCA has several exciting opportunities for Behaviour Welfare Advisers to join our team across the UK. We are dedicated to finding unwanted, mistreated and abused animals loving, permanent homes and you could play a critical role in this vital work.
