According to @brandonmterry, we're now a long way from Dr. King’s idea that “all labor has dignity." During the pandemic, workers are asked to continue to make our collective life & comfort possible at great risk to themselves, which is "hardly appreciated & much less rewarded."

“Existing pictures of Dr. King as a civil rights leader, narrowly construed, are radically misleading,” says @brandonmterry. "King always argued that merely formal #rights could never amount to genuine #freedom and #equality in a #capitalist society.“

Historically, universal programs are thought to be the best way politically to advance economic benefits to African Americans. Though #JasonLee believes there's credence to that, he wonders: "In the short term, there may be opportunities for more racially targeted programs."
