We are remembering the tragedy that native and indigenous people endured- some that continues today.
In Congress, I will fight to protect tribal sovereignty and celebrate native culture by empowering them in their communities.

I think this is should be a day of mourning or atonement so we'll need a different sentiment than "happy." What's happy about it for the indigenous people or those who see all the wrong that was done to them.

There is nothing happy about a day originally recognized as celebrating the invasion of our peoples lands and slaughter millions. If they are serious about changing the day then let’s erase this day and give the indigenous a new day of their own.
