Holy shit, there are so many red flags on this github post for a program manager for their maintainers program. https://boards.greenhouse.io/github/jobs/938041#.Wh184rQ-cWq …

Let's start with "Maintainers should feel special because they are special." Power corrupts, a lot of the time. Some maintainers decide they can treat people like shit just because they are the "authority" in their community. We need empathetic maintainers.

They talk about already creating a private forum for maintainers. This program "should deepen relationships between maintainers". Ya know what this is called? A cabal. A private club for the powerful to connect in their echo chamber.

"Experience growing a VIP program for engaged and passionate power users" I have been in a similar program, the Linux kernel summit for top maintainers. Wined and dined and told we were special. The same white men (and few token women) keep attending. Echo chamber.

Under required skills: "You are direct, proactive, and opinionated." Riiiigght. So basically what you want is another bull-headed person who doesn't advocate for cultural change or more empathy. Status quo. Probably end up hiring a white dude.

Under github's values: "Empathy: We believe in putting people first." Which people? The strong and the powerful or the people who need improved safety and reporting tools? Yeah, I see where your priorities lie.

TBH, my complaint is not on this particular program. It's a general complaint about the priorities of upper management in creating this program. They are willing to nurture what will probably be an echo chamber of middle-class, able-bodied, white dudes to get product feedback.

Anyone already a part of this private maintainers group and want to be an ally? Come talk to me about: safety issues supporting newcomers to open source debiasing contribution evaluation safe username changes. I don't maintain on GH, but I do have 6 years xp as a maintainer.

I'm a member of the group. I believe @kytrinyx has a hand in it from the github side
