That is, instead of trying to find code you need in the current state, try to find commits that change similar things as you want to change.

Emacs + magit is an awesome way to browse the history (blame) of each area of code

I would never do that if I didn't have magit. Going back in time just by pressing "a" on the appropriate line is amazing!
