I’m not sure who was watching who today....... The influx continued on so I made the most of it spending as much time as I could in the field listening & watching & being watched 😁

Looks like my upto date field guide of the birds of Mexico is now out of date with taxonomic changes - apparently my Black Shouldered Kite should correctly be called Elanus leucurus

I fear that I’ve peaked too soon this holiday............ on my first sunrise walk around. I watched it catch a Least Sandpiper as it flew off this perch and carry it off into the jungle. Incredible. What a place

First birds in Mexico straight out of the arrivals hall at Cancun Airport were a pair of Band-tailed Pigeons. I didn’t see those on my last Mexico trip so a good start! First things first though before anything else.......hummingbird feeders filled and out on the balcony.......

Turns out that Glasgow Fort is an incredible amphitheater for roosting Song Thrushes. The roost is slap bang opposite the curved fort & it amplifies their calls to a level where you can hear the birds above the many cars & their song resonates all the way round the fort. Magic

Heard back today on this Greylag Orange DTF I found on Sunday @ Scousburgh. It was collared as a Juvenile @ Clumlie on the 18.07.15 It’s only been recorded a few times a year since then but always been seen around central & southern Shetland. Nice to get details back so quickly!

Last day off work proved to be a decent winters day birding. Found an Adult at Scatness & managed to catch up with the (although I dipped the Velvet Scoter in West Voe) & only my 3rd ever in Shetland after I’d found a pair last year in S.Nesting.

With today’s gale force winds, heavy hail and sleet showers it was always going to be a tough day. The plan was to sift through gull roosts and check the plumage variation amongst similar aged birds. A couple of white wingers present amongst hundreds of HG’s were the highlight.
