No other developed country has the same problem we have here. I have spoken to Crystal and I am thinking of the victims during this difficult time.

Yet another mass shooting - this time in our own backyard in community. Heartbreaking. Until this country has a serious conversation about the insane proliferation of guns in our society these shootings - sadly - will continue.

Today, a bill to codify protections for women’s reproductive health was blocked in the US Senate. Republicans in Washington are failing women, threatening their rights & their bodily autonomy. The will continue fighting to protect women and the rights of all NYers.

This is a day to be recharged, reenergized and rededicated to making sure women in this country are respected and not told what to do with your bodies. The Supreme Court’s decision is the not the end. It is the beginning of a renewed battle.

One thing is clear: we can never rest. We must always work to ensure that everyone can make their own healthcare decisions, free from governmental interference. In the New York State Assembly, we will never stop fighting to protect these rights.

During the debate to enact this commonsense legislation, many of our colleagues across the aisle told us that such a law was not necessary – that reproductive rights were not at risk. They were disingenuous. They were wrong. And I am thankful that we did not listen.

The Assembly has long fought for women to have full autonomy over their healthcare. In 2019, after years of resistance from a Republican Senate, we enacted the Reproductive Health Act to ensure women in NY would be safeguarded from the horrific impacts of a decision like this.

Healthcare decisions should never be politicized, but his radical Supreme Court would seek to treat women as second-class citizens and deny them the right to their own healthcare.

If these reports are true, it would mark a tremendous step backward for our country & strip women of their right to control their healthcare and basic bodily autonomy. The Trump presidency may be over, but his malignant legacy in our government and in SCOTUS is still present.

Reports that the U.S. Supreme Court is poised to dismantle the rights of women and undermine nearly 50 years of precedent established by Roe v. Wade are deeply disturbing.

Congratulations to Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on her historic confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court. For our country’s institutions to work, they must reflect the people they serve, all the way up to the highest court in the land.
