Ok one more parenting folk wisdom thing I really buy into- don’t judge your parenting by how your kid treats you, judge it by how they are with people outside the family. Unfortunately part of the parental role is being the adult it is safe to be a jerk to.

I disagree. No one deserves to have a persons they can shit on. After you then who? Their boyfriend/girlfriend? Their spouse? It sounds like you might be raising them to be an abuser.

That tends to be what parents get afraid of when their kids are mean to them, but i’ve seen countless times that a kid goes through some confusing crap and takes out their anger on the safest adult in their life. It’s a real fine balance btw holding limits and giving a kid grace

I agree. There’s a definite difference between a toddler venting and a middle schooler being nonstop disrespectful and abusive with no checks.

Could not agree more. No, parenting teens requires such rigorous defense of limits. All the boundary issues you could ignore or minimize with a little come at you with a vengeance once puberty hits.
