In most states when you exit a social work, counseling, MFT, or counseling psychology grad programs you’ve got 2-5 years before you’re independently licensed.

You don’t want to end up in a position where the job you can get with your masters doesn’t give you the supervision you need to get to independent licensure. You’re putting so much money on the line, know the SPECIFICS of what you’re doing.

There’s the “why don’t they teach you about credit cards in high school” thing but it’s even more confusing why licensures wouldn’t be a prominent feature of therapist school

I have looked into this but I still fret over it, and I wonder if I will continue to fret up until the moment I am independently licensed. Or beyond. Great for someone with a tendency towards chronic worry and chronic fear that the world will drop out from below them
