I don’t think enough parents put a countdown of how many days until their teen is 18 on the wall. For a 14 year old you have 1460 days. Nice reminder for everyone involved childhood (the sweet and the terrible) is a temporary condition.

I’ve done this calculation with teen clients and parents quite a bit. For the teen, helps them work up more distress tolerance. For the parents they get so sad! So many of the parents have literally said “i can’t talk about this!” It’s just reality, talking about it or not.

Being a parent to a kid is a temporary situation. Being a parent to an adult is a WAY different deal. Gotta use your time and make your choices accordingly. It is a rough reality to work with.
