Sometimes in sessions with clients I’ll do DBT mindfulness exercises that are about observing thoughts. Let me tell you it is a self-disclosure field of landmines.

There’s one where you write down yr thoughts on drawings of clouds. I have never done one without having to purposefully edit out the clouds on mine that are “when do i get to eat” and “i’m no good at therapy.”

The other self-disclosure landmine is when you come back from a vacation. Another one- when pandemic telehealth started i let some kiddo clients meet my dog over video. Then my dog died. Really gave me some time to reflect on that choice.

Just to say therapy is a field where boy do you learn from making mistakes. So don’t go into it if you’re not real comfy both apologizing and NOT knowing if something was a mistake.
