If you can’t find a way to hear out and really consider alternative perspectives to your own, you’ll be doomed to vacillate wildly between ideologies all your life, always a true believer, always foolish.

And if you never find a way to care about and bond to people who think differently then you your capacity for growth + joy will always be handicapped. You’ll have the perspective of a 15 year old forever, and the contentment and self-esteem of a 15 year old to go along with it.

This right here is why I think the nexus between the active intellect, imagination, and emotions is so important to understand. Personally, I want to discuss those radical ideas, because I see some hope in them...but discussing them fully too often triggers others' emotions.

In the end, it requires one to have hope...but also the courage to face when something won't work out as we hope. Hope keeps us trying and searching. It fails when it stops us in our intellectual tracks.
