The human race is all under a collective delusional ignorance about how much value daughters bring to our lives. Daughters are so leaned on to make families function, but across the planet we all feel both entitled to the labor of daughters and totally glib about their value.
I hope the wheel keeps turning towards parents taking as much joy in their daughters as their sons, and giving their daughters as much free time, resources, and support as their sons. I believe momentum is building towards us raising our children in wiser ways.
I'm thinking about this though...in some societies, it would be a kindness to abort an unborn girl, even though that is not the intention. I wouldn't wish for those dead girls to be alive in those villages.
