The breadth of the diagnostic criteria compared with the severity of the treatment is what trips me out- the majority of distress over gender meets the listed criteria but the only official treatment is changing your appearance and laying down rules for your social circle.
But I think that’s what happens when you have a very enthusiastic interest group lobbying in the DSM rewrite process and a society that doesn’t actually think gender non conforming ppl matter very much.
That’s why I’m never gonna feel bad for pushing detrans issues forward. GNC ppl have been hurt and tossed aside by the modern medical industry since the days of institutionalization and lobotomies, + that’s the real sickness at play.
There are actually so many papers from the 70’s and 80’s about psychodynamic treatment of GID. It was NOT inevitable that medical interventions would become the main way these feelings are “treated.”
