Ok even though @e_urq has been shockingly insulting to detransitioners lately, I can imagine why the flavor of recent coverage of detransitioners would be very triggering to trans guys- we’re aware there’s an infantilizing sexism to a lot of the “save our daughters!” stuff?
Believe me I am v concerned about teenagers making these choices. But In this culture when adolescent female ppl attempt to direct their own lives we meet them w/ “you are fragile/precious and must be handled with kid gloves” or “hey go nuts girl, this’ll be fun.”
For female ppl who experience gender dysphoria medical transition is an option. That’s our world and that’s one of many choices. It’s healthy to desire to weigh all your options and direct your own life, + so many trans guys are happy with their choices.
I just want adolescent gender dysphoric female ppl to have counseling that really and truly provides all the context to these choices. I want 14 year olds talking to the happy 55 year trans guys and yeah, us unhappy mess ups too about how we created our lives.
I hope I would tell that 14 year old “regardless of what you do with this choice after this the choices are just gonna keep coming at you, so start studying your own decision making process. You are right yr decision making process can’t be to listen to mom + dad forever.”
Yr mom and dad love you to the best of their ability, but they don’t have to live your adult life. The thing is yr doctor and therapist ALSO don’t have to live out the consequences of your decisions. Neither do the happy trans guys. Neither do us oopsy-mistakeys. Totally on you.

This is going to get into me calling out so many examples of infantilizing coverage of detransitioners, and there’s bigger fish to fry, but it’s something I see so often I can’t even work up anger about it anymore.
