Am I comfortable being treated like a woman? No, full stop. Am I comfortable with how comfortable other ppl were about me using essentially experimental medical interventions that have unknown impacts on my blood, brain and organs? No, full stop.

Being a female person with a gender transition experience means coming face to face with how little the medical profession values females.

So yeah now I walk through the world getting treated in a way I find p exhausting and alienating, and try v hard to find social pockets where it’s ok to be myself. It’s far from ideal. But for me it’s preferable to all the unknowns of years of T.

And I get that trans men will look at my appearance and be like “GAWD this straight lady WHATEVER” and I’ve found that means in 3 years they’ll send me a heartfelt email apologizing. So GAWD, whatever.

Thank you for speaking up. This is an incredibly toxic discourse and it takes a lot of courage to speak about personal experiences. The asymmetry in TM vs. TW representation and treatment cannot be overstated. Only willfully blind do not see it.

The largest study (Women's Health Initiative) had to be called off because they were alarmed at the premature deaths. HRT triples the risk of stroke and doubles the risk of heart disease in women who don't naturally produce those hormones. There's no similar study for trans use

A FTM I know had a social media meltdown one day when an insurance company clerk, in a phone call, misgendered her/him. The rant was mainly directed at the clerk’s inability to see that the call was about a T prescription, so obviously the patient is transMAN. 1/

2/ Obviously a transMAN, how dare someone misgender, no woman takes T! And I, being a tad older, thought of many middle-aged women who get T prescriptions for reasons unrelated to transitioning.... How is it this FTM is so uneducated about these things?

3/ Granted, FTMs and menopausal women would use very different doses. But the lack of a basic of female biology, hormones and their changes over time... how are you even making an “informed consent” choice if you don’t know this. Whoops... you’re not!

Agreed, doctors don’t or in some situations can’t talk basic biology with a patient. My endocrinologist told me she has had many a trans person storm out of her office because she asked basic questions.
