It is important to remember what it means to be and to remember this mission to which we have all been called. The Cardinal’s Appeal is our faith at work, attesting to who we are and the values we cherish. For full video:

  2. Today is the Feast of Saint Paul Miki and his companions – the martyrs of Japan. We can’t celebrate these martyrs today without being in solidarity with those who are currently suffering persecution for their faith throughout the world. We owe them our love and support.

  3. Mary Higgins Clark was a dear friend of mine. Early on I become a big fan of her books, and when I arrived here in New York eleven years ago, our friendship deepened. Her Catholic faith was deep, sincere, and humble.

  4. Today is the Feast of Saint Agatha, one of the young virgin martyrs who decided to consecrate herself totally to Jesus at a young age. These women were harassed, persecuted, and martyred. They teach us the beauty of womanhood and pure feminism. Saint Agatha, pray for us.

  5. In today’s Gospel we see two approaches to Jesus. There is the woman who had faith Jesus could heal her simply by touching Him. Others, like Jairus’s friends, doubted and scoffed at Jesus, but He rose Jairus’s daughter from the dead. Today’s Readings:

  6. On this week’s show, I talked about the passing of Mary Higgins Clark. She was a friend who’s been on this show a number of times. I also talked about my upcoming trip to Cuba and the effort in Canada to expand assisted suicide. Podcast here:

  7. My homily from yesterday. In yesterday’s reading, King David is being cursed & criticized. His guards ask what they should do & King David replies, “Let him alone and let him curse.” There’s no use letting people get under our skin. Today’s Readings:

  8. It’s the Feast of Saint Blaise. With sore throats common this time of year, it’s a good time for the blessing of the throats, but I also invite you to think of the blessing in a spiritual way. God wants us to use our voices to praise Him and to speak well of others.

  9. This is the dreariest time of the year and all of us are looking for something to lift us out of the darkness. We realize that inside us is a constant battle – but God is in the business of illumination, and we know that light will conquer darkness.

  10. Happy Sunday! In our Catholic calendar today is Candlemas Day – the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. It's also the Super Bowl. While we don’t know who will win the Super Bowl, we do know who’s won the battle between good and evil in the world -- that’s Jesus.

  12. Today is the Feast of Saint John Bosco. I’ve loved him since the first time I heard about him in second grade from my teacher Sister Mary Bosco. He was a hard-working, simple parish priest who revolutionized Italy with his care for young people.

  13. It’s bleak out there, folks! I mean it’s dark outside, these short days at the height of winter. But Jesus Christ is the light of the world! The powers of darkness sure try hard to extinguish His light, but the victory is His! Read my full column here:

  14. In today’s Scripture reading, we find King David in humble prayer before God. We can’t do anything to win God’s favor, He loves us already. We can live with gratitude for all the gifts God has given us. Here’s my homily. Today's Readings:

  15. Happy Wednesday! We’re in the middle of Catholic Schools Week and I’d like to say how grateful I am for our schools. We want to keep them strong, but we need your help. Enrollment is an important part of keeping our schools open and thriving.

  16. When I was a parish priest I asked students what the Church is. One replied that it’s a bunch of people trying to do what Jesus did - a simple answer for a complicated question. In this morning’s Gospel we see Jesus teaching, which is fitting as it’s Catholic Schools Week.

  19. Today is the Feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas. I’m here in my study to show you my copy of his work, Summa Theologiae. It’s said to be one of the greatest masterpieces ever written in philosophy & theology. It reminds us of the Church’s beautiful wisdom of blending faith & reason.

  20. Today is the Feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas. His philosophy can be summed up with the line an egg is an egg. It’s a realism. There is a definitive identity and order in creation. A baby in a womb or an immigrant at a border are people. We can’t forget that.
