I think it's mistaken that the essence of writing exists at the level of words. Just as music is the manipulation of sound and art; line and color. Writing is more to do with the creation and manipulation of metaphors.

I find this to be a meaningless statement as it’s too vague. How could one approach art by thinking in terms of resonance and conveyance. It has poetic value but not practical value.

A good piece of music is understood on a visceral level. It "moves you." This is resonance. A visual piece of art can speak to someone and create unreasoning joy. This is conveyance. A good story can make you laugh or cry, even without metaphor or rhythm.
