I am so so so on board with anime becoming less corporate and breaking the monopoly. But this feels naive at best, predatory at worst. There is no way a crowdfunded effort can beat the current streaming services, who are paying massive amounts in licensing.

One of the things Anime Tube is promising is to somehow have a larger catalogue than any competing streaming service up until now. That is... impossible.pic.twitter.com/gbpepGXCKI

People have already donated over $100,000 to this and I really do fear that a lot of it has to do with a lack of information about the industry (as well as the sponsored vouching from a popular webcomic creator).

This is even more suspicious. Their previous evaluation for how much it would cost was way more, but because it didn't meet the goal, they didn't get to keep the money. Now it's at a lower goal, so they get to keep the money regardless.https://twitter.com/ShoujoRukiia/status/1412924833789140994?s=19 …

It absolutely is not. Yeah, this isn't just naive, is it? This is a total scam.pic.twitter.com/NCZVYaLrVC

The Japanese anime industry is "moving towards" selling popular shows for massive amounts to streaming services owned by megacorporations. This might have worked 10+ years ago. But you're gonna need Netflix money to compete in 2021.

Oh fuck off, now this is just stupid. There's Netflix Originals and Crunchyroll co-productions on this... https://gameface.llc/anime-in-discussion?utm_source=animelist&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=ourlistofanime …

You can report the Kickstarter at the bottom of the page. They're being intentionally vague about licenses they absolutely cannot obtain and using popular shows that they also cannot obtain to promote the service.pic.twitter.com/whsPK49rVz

No way to touch it "legally"

They promise they're doing it legally, which is... ambitious.
