  1. Update (3 Feb): With the roads leading out to the station remaining closed, unfortunately our visitor centre and also remain closed until further notice. Lots of smoke from the fires in the distance but the station is not under threat.

    UPDATE (2nd Feb): Due to road closures in the area, our Visitor Centre and will remain temporarily closed on Monday 3rd February. We hope to reopen on Tuesday. Please keep checking our social media channels for updates and for fire and road conditions.

    After 16+ years, today was the end of the infrared space telescope’s mission. Our station was controlling the antennas at our sister station as the final signals were received. 😢📡〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️🛰

    The is intimidating, even at the distance that we are from it. We have effective emergency management plans in place, if needed. Not surprisingly, we are closed to the public over the weekend and we will reevaluate on Monday.

    A change in wind direction is bringing more smoke from the over the station. The notes the fire is now at ADVICE level but reminds everyone to be vigilant and watch for updates. There is no current fire threat to the tracking station.📡

    Some dramatic and beautifully disturbing photos taken by one of our staff (Matt P.) last night of the . As the crow flies, the fire front is about 20kms away. There is no current threat to the station and we continue to monitor the situation with

    There continues to be a bushfire burning to the south that currently poses no threat to the tracking station. We recommend visitors only come from the north via Cotter & Paddys River roads and heed any travel warnings from

    Just learned that the air tanker that went down recently was the same one that helped protect our station in the 2018 fire. Our sincerest thanks to all firefighters and deepest condolences to the families that have lost those brave men.
