Because it's not a cycle track. It's a service road to get to broken down busses that it looked handy to cycle on. Like a lot of supposed infrastructure, it's existence is just a coincidence.

Maybe so cyclists wouldn't fall into the guided busway if they fall off their bike (this has happened in Trumpington)? Not everything is a big conspiracy against cyclists.

Not saying it's a conspiracy against cyclists - it affects anyone who usually uses it. Arguably as people now cycle or walk on grass they're at greater risk of accident with a passing bus as it's so close.

Because they were only allowed so much tarmac because of flooding risk to other areas, or so they say, and the idea of raising it on stilts or concrete stands was beyond their understanding. Cyclists aren't worth it to
