For example, I’m an addict in recovery who is taking her comps and is under stress. Tonight, I went to the 12-step recovery meeting for support and find @USUAggies undergraduates in the meeting taking notes. I feel uncomfortable and forfeit my access to *life-saving* support.

I have the privilege of being open with my recovery. Many addicts do not. Sending
@USUAggies students *with no formal ethical research training* into a setting where folx are *at significant risk* if others discover their participation/addict status is UNETHICAL.Show this thread -
This puts addicts at risk. Lives are at stake. Our recovery rooms are “open” to the public only for the purpose of saving lives—not for providing coursework

Literally one observer brought their wife with them. She’s in the master’s of nursing program and said she’s done similar coursework. She also told me she disagreed (a participant) that this practice was unethical since they were observing as “supporters.”

What in the actual hell? No ethics training. No risk mitigation training. And most importantly no informed consent for an extremely at-risk population.
