The decision not to release Osman Kavala today is indefensible: it is in breach of an order of the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights and will now lead to a stand off with the Council of Europe which Turkey joined in 1950. Another very dark day.

to be unlawful, ordering the first instance court to lift the ban with immediate effect. A very good decision for the people of Turkey. The key question is whether they should have waited over 2.5 years for it.

Boğaziçi Üniversitesi haberine çok üzüldüm. Hayatımdaki İlk ziyaret ettiğim kampüs, hep bana liyakatin bir sembolü gibi gelirdi. Şimdi baktım: 2013: dünyanın ilk 100 üniversitesi listesinde 2021: dünyanın ilk 600 üniversitesi listesinde yok Boğaziçililere büyük bir görev düştü.

The problem with this: decisions of the Constitutional Ct are not adhered to, the European Convention is asserted to be non-binding by the Head of the State that has ratified it, and there is footage of police kicking students on the floor. And who are the "certain circles"?
