I get that he’s implicitly talking about a tentpole blockbuster context, but also: it’s not like they’re committing to telling an old woman’s story. “Procgen granny holding an uzi” as a marketing move isn’t “doing something with grannies.”

any time someone says something like that they really mean "nobody has ever done X with the budget we have before". anything done in a more experimental context doesn't even exist because money legitimizes art in our industry. this goes for more vs less expensive indie games.
