"This is a 'solved' probem by now" [SIC] Ugh. Arguing that open world multiplatform engine design at 144 FPS is some sort of trivial task is just so unbelievably frustrating.

Game developers do not create games to justify your hardware purchases. Just because you dump money on a 144hz monitor or a sick new graphics card does not mean game creators "owe you" something that utilizes that tech.

It's just frustrating that we can't have real conversations about the development process and instead fall back on "lazy devs" trope for lack of info. In a roundabout way this is the flip side of the Arenanet stuff.

Developers can't be open for fear of angry gamer folks, but by refusing to talk about how games actually work and the tradeoffs that get made we end up with a different kind of angry audience that assumes "just uncap the framerate WTF" is a reasonable request.

"This is a 'solved' probem (sic) by now, as numerous other games have demonstrated an ability to scale to arbitrarily high framerates."
-
Yeah, it's infuriating. "Other games have done this, therefore any engine with any art assets should be able to do this in any and all circumstances!"
-
"For example, DOOM (2016) has uncapped framerates, and the only byproduct is occasionally getting stuck in a railing and vibrating increasingly faster until the player is launched out of the game world."

six people in the goddamn universe have 144hz monitors and the people in the replies are screaming "bad port"
-
I made the mistake of reading the comments of the article itself and now I'm mad about gamers
-
Never read the comments ever but especially never read the comments on PC Gamer

They're keeping the extra frames locked in a box in a warehouse! Just open the box, lazy devs!
-
You sure you don’t have any more frames? Like in the back room? ...can you just check in the back for me? You’ve got that walkie talkie thing right there. I’d just really appreciate it if you checked for me. ...ugh, whatever. Can I speak to your manager?

Yeah, Digital Foundry did an analysis of Dark Souls Remastered a few weeks ago that ended on "They should have let it do framerates over 60fps" and

-
I swear to god, Digital Foundry is a huge reason why these conversations get so much traction in gamer crowds to begin with. Also: “This game runs at 60FPS but we noticed dips into 56 FPS on three occasions, we are very disappointed” Fuck everything
-
I mean... I agree with this whole thing, but digital foundry are always very nice to games, they aren't disappointed with the dips and praise games that maintain a stable 30 fps. The comments and the gamers are awful, but they are very positive.
-
I will agree that the host are polite, but there’s a seriously gross following they have, it’s huge, and they just ignore it. Also, any time they talk about games outside of graphics tech, it screams “gamer group-think”. They’re oblivious but complicit, from what I see
-
But they are a tech channel, not a game design channel. They are positive and appreciative of the effort all developers put into different stuff, like the praise to recent switch ports of modern games. I don't think it's fair to expect every other thing from them.

This really reminds me of all those times we argued about Blast Processing TM.

How many bits is The Crew 2?! Give us Blast Processing you lazy devs!
