Like, I'm hesitant to over-praise Fallout 1 and 2 because they have their own blind spots and are hardly like, profoundly deep texts in their own right. But they do have a voice and perspective that is fundamentally different from Bethesda's Fallout.

And look, at this point the franchise is far more Bethesda's than Interplay's/Black Isle's (hell, those companies are defunct). So it is what it is now. I'm pining for a version of the game that no longer exists, and I need to get over that.

But it all ties back into my complaining about Quantic Dream's junk earlier tonight. It's just so tiring for games to embrace empty power fantasy and not stand for anything. And not all games do, but almost all AAA games do. That's felt most acutely at this time of year.
